Shitstorm of Greatness

Well, it’s been a busy week here in Hollywood. Let me fill you all in on the details:

A few months ago, we stumbled across a website by this guy named Colby Witherspoon. He did an insane and awesome amount of work analyzing our 2002 masterpiece, Girth McDürchstein’s ‘The Hedge’ for those who don’t understand its layers and intricacies. It’s a complex story made even more confusing by the greatness of the music. Using interviews, a bootleg copy of the never-released film version, and a lot of odds and ends (demos, outdated lyrics, a videotaped rehearsal of the stage show), Colby unraveled the mysteries of The Hedge and put it on the Web.

We wanted to have the analysis up on our site in time for the fifth anniversary of The Hedge’s release (which breezed right past us in February). Unfortunately, it took some doing to get this stuff on our site. As soon as we contacted Colby, he seemed real excited and interested in having his analysis on our page. But he works for a pair of Hollywood producers, Kenneth Gunther and Lemuel Johnston, who seem to think Colby had something worth selling. It took us weeks to hash out all the details, but basically what it comes down to is this: we’re posting his analysis for free as advertising for a book-length version due out in Japan this August. The book will expand on the themes he talks about here, but it will also be a biography of Abysmal Crucifix, using The Hedge to delve into the history of our band.

After we got things organized with Colby, our resident artist/web designer, Alistair Freeman, spent this week working his ass off to make it the website look kick-fucking-ass for you guys.

Do yourself a favor and check out The Hedge analysis. It’s worth the time for both Abysmal newbies (who might be intimidated by The Hedge’s expansiveness and pure awesome factor) and Crucificiandos (who might like to know more details on the project). Feel free to e-mail me or Colby for more information. Also, check out Colby’s website and MySpace pages. He’s a really cool, easygoing guy who deserves your friendship.

Beyond that, you might be wondering, “What has Abysmal Crucifix been up to the past few months?” Sure, we put out our great Christmas single in December, but we’ve been pretty much MIA.

Well, I got some fucking mind-blowing news for you guys:

Remember our album, Girth McDürchstein’s ‘The Return’, which was supposed to come out last July? You thought it was gone for good, didn’t you?

You’re fucking wrong, that’s all! Our good friend DJ Koko flew to Hollywood for a little while last November, and using her insane production skills, she concocted a version of The Return that is, quite simply, totally fucking awesome. We have to rerecord everything pretty much from scratch, so it’ll be a few more months before it comes out, but when it does, it’ll blow your mind the same way it blew mine.

As we do that, our manager/bassist, Margo, is going to be working her ass off trying to book us at venues so we can support The Return with a kick-ass world tour. I know I’ve complained about having trouble getting booked in the past, but now we’ve got an album in the works and things are going good again.

Margo’s slick, so she shouldn’t have too much trouble, but if any of you MySpace friends know of any local venues that would be a good fit for our style, drop us a message or a comment so we can contact those places and get our asses up on that stage for your enjoyment.

Keep your eyes peeled on this blog for more announcements about the upcoming tour!
